G&D provides mobile payment tech for Commonwealth Bank of Australia
Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has announced that its latest mobile Cloud Payment launch is among the world’s first commercial offering of host card emulation (HCE) for near field communication (NFC) contactless payments.
CBA customers can enrol for the service and link it to their CBA MasterCard debit account. The mobile payment service is part of CBA’s latest mobile application and is supported by HCE-enabled Android devices from a large range of Android smartphone vendors.
The CBA mobile payment service uses the Convego CloudPay solution from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). As G&D’s CloudPay solution supports any HCE enabled Android device, there is a large device base already on the market capable of providing the CBA service.
The app has a built-in enrolment functionality for the mobile payment service, which makes it easy for consumers to sign up for the service, with real time provisioning of the mobile payment card to the consumer’s device.
The G&D Convego CloudPay solution consists of two main components; CloudPay Server and CloudPay Client. The server provides an online interface to banks, in this case CBA. The CloudPay service provides for the provisioning and lifecycle management of the bank’s payment cards on the end users’ smartphones.
The CloudPay Client is a secure software library that is integrated into the bank’s mobile application, such as CBA’s app, and provides a secure storage for the payment card data and payment engine to execute mobile payment transactions. The CloudPay Client implements state of the art security mechanisms to protect the payment data stored on the mobile device.
