Early signals reveal strong appetite for latest flagship smartphones

Samsung has stated that its latest smartphones have generated more pre-orders than any other Galaxy smartphone in the UK ever.

During the pre-order period, which started within hours of the device’s launch on 21 February and concluded on 10 March, sales for the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge were at least 2.5 times greater than those of any other previous Galaxy device in the UK.

In the first two days of pre-order, Carphone Warehouse reported a 200% uplift in pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, compared with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

The design of the Galaxy S7 edge is also proving popular, with this device accounting for 61% of total European pre-orders to date. First introduced on last year’s Galaxy S6 edge, the Edge UX on the S7 edge offers convenient shortcuts to contacts, apps and popular camera settings such as selfie and panorama mode.

Conor Pierce, VP IT and mobile division, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, commented: “The pre-order performance of the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge illustrates strong customer appetite for our premium smartphones in the UK.

“Customers opening their new Galaxy phone want new innovations and experiences, powered by their smartphone. We are confident that our new flagship devices fulfil this need better than anything else available on the market. By creating a world of connected products and services through the Gear VR, Gear 360 and Samsung Pay, we are providing a highly differentiated and richer experience for our consumers, a central part of our strategy.”
