Support also offered for Nokia mobile phones using Symbian operating system
Device security specialist, BlackBelt, has announced it is now offering its DataWipe solution for iPads and Android tablets, as well as Nokia phones using the Symbian operating system.
This enables organisations to erase sensitive data from mobile devices before they are sent for recycling. Commercial resellers and insurance companies can also use DataWipe to ensure refurbished handsets are virus and malware free before being issued to customers. BlackBelt DataWipe has been developed to remove personal and corporate data from mobile devices using solid state memory. Unlike using a device's in-built factory reset or re-flashing the operating system, DataWipe completely removes all personal information. This safeguards the integrity of businesses' and consumers' data by ensuring it does not fall into the wrong hands. Additionally, DataWipe claimed it removes user data three times faster than manual processes. Ken Garner, business development manager at BlackBelt, said: 'Analyst house IDC forecasts tablet sales will exceed those of desktop PCs by the end of the year and laptops by the close of 2014. The huge demand for tablet devices, compounded by their relatively short shelf life of typically 12 to 24 months, means we are likely to see a dramatic increase in the number of tablets sent away for recycling. 'These figures also suggest more tablets will find their way into the workplace, whether these are issued directly by employers or come in via BYOD schemes. While tablets offer clear advantages to organisations, they are another device CIOs need to factor in for wiping as they reach the end of their life cycle, so as to avoid a potentially damaging data breach.'
