Following on from Note 7 exploding batteries, the company is not going to unveil its latest and greatest at Mobile World Congress 2017
Samsung has stated that it will not be unveiling its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year. It cited its continuing investigations into the Note 7 exploding battery debacle that rocked the company’s reputation last year as the reason for the delayed launch.
According to Reuters, Samsung’s next flagship Galaxy smartphone is being held back as the company pledges to, “enhance product safety following an investigation into the cause of fires in its premium Note 7 devices”.
Reuters stated that the company has said two suppliers are responsible for the faulty batteries in the Note 7 smartphone. As a result of the faulty devices, Samsung lost $5.3 billion in operating profit.
Samsung mobile chief, Koh Dong-jin, was reported by Reuters as saying at a press conference on Monday that, “the lessons of this incident are deeply reflected in our culture and process. Samsung Electronics will be working hard to regain consumer trust.”
The company has not stated when the new device will launch.
