Facebook launches iPad app

A post of the Facebook blog today reveals that the social networking behemoth has 'finally' launched a facebook app for the iPad, allowing an improved Facebook experience on the Apple tablet, says Facebook.

'Many of you have been asking about Facebook for iPad,' says Leon Dubinsky, Facebook software engineer. 'Today, it’s finally here. With the iPad app, you get the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips.'

The highlights of the new app include the ability to use your fingertips to scroll through your News Feed and swipe through photo albums. So kinda like it already is on the iPhone 4.

Of course browsing photos is a whole lot nicer on the iPad given its larger screen size.

Chat, games and other features

New features include the ability to chat on the iPad, for example, or play games and use apps in full-screen mode. 'You can also watch high-res videos inline, record HD video and stream to Airplay devices,' added Dubinsky.

Facebook said it has also made several improvements to the iPhone app and m.facebook.com. 'With your next update, you’ll see a simplified navigation, faster search and access to more games and apps,' said Dubinsky.

Facebook has also extended Facebook Platform on mobile providing the ability for people to access and discover Facebook apps and games from iPhone, iPad and other devices via m.facebook.com; allowing developers to use Facebook’s social channels to increase app distribution and user engagement on mobile; and enabling the activation of credits on mobile.
