Tennis tournament at SW20 becomes the latest summer event to adopt the technology previously used London 2012

Urban Airship, provider of mobile solutions to build relationships with connected consumers, announced that Wimbledon is the latest world class event to use its push messaging service.

The free Wimbledon app, built in partnership between the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) and IBM, allows app users to follow all the action on their smartphones or tablets, regardless of their location.  As the world's top tennis players begin competing this week in the 127th Wimbledon, tennis fans can track up to 10 tennis players and receive push notifications on their progress throughout the tournament.

Instead of having to sift through all the scores and listings from this large event, users can opt to receive updates on Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, and any of their other favourite competitors. Additionally, the app delivers push updates for general news and alerts throughout the tournament.

An array of fun features are also included in this year's app. Between a latest news feed, scoreboard, schedule, photos, and video highlights, the app keeps fans up-to-date on all of the tournament matches. And with Live @ Wimbledon Radio, users can listen to three channels covering The Championships and live match commentary.   While the Wimbledon app can be enjoyed by users all around the world, it also includes a map feature, called Find It, specifically designed for attendees of the event. This interactive map provides spectators with the locations of key amenities, such as restrooms, dining options, first aid centres, courts and any other notable landmarks.

Previous uses of the Urban Airship technology have seen the combination of mobile apps and push messaging drive engagement, improve experiences and keep attendees safe from extreme weather conditions.

The technology has been used recently at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival that took place this past weekend and is currently in use for the 60th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, being held throughout the week.

These 2013 events join many others including the London Olympics, SXSW, Lollapalooza, Coachella and Rip Curl Live Events app in using Urban Airship's services to connect and engage their audiences.
