Reads fingerprints at a resolution up to 2000 pixels per inch, four times the resolution of sensors used by Apple and Samsung
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona: Vkansee, creator of the world’s first under-glass and secure, patented and ultra-thin optical fingerprint sensor, has announced a prototype laptop integration for the Windows operating system, being demonstrated here in Barcelona.
The prototype demonstrates its under-glass optical fingerprint reader compatibility via a Windows Hello security login on a Lenovo laptop. The company’s high resolution sensors are ultra-thin, anti-spoof, water and sweat resistant, and read fingerprints at a resolution up to 2000 pixels per inch, four times the resolution of sensors used by Apple and Samsung.
Vkansee’s sensors can read through up to 2mm of cover glass, creating opportunities for small, portable mobile devices and larger internet of things (IoT) appliances and vehicles. Vkansee currently has evaluation kits in testing with various manufacturers and will be ready for mass production in 2017.
“Many existing mobile fingerprint sensors, including the recently announced TouchID bar for the new Macbook Pro, rely on outdated capacitive sensors which leave devices and consumers’ digital identity vulnerable to dangerous security breaches,” said Jason Chaikin, president at Vkansee. “Our sensors use pioneering optical technology to capture fingerprints under-glass or further integrated with display screens to enable freedom in button-free design for any device with a screen without compromising security.”
At the end of 2016, Vkansee raised an additional $10 million in funding, bringing total invested capital to $12 million, to accelerate market entry, develop new products and commercially mass produce and distribute its high resolution sensors to laptop, phone and other mobile device makers. This financing coincides with a recent software license with Precise Biometrics, whose secure fingerprint matching algorithm is used in devices from Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, LG, Vivo and Oppo, among others, and equips Vkansee’s product for market entry.
